Safety Engineering and the Machinery Directive

Working in partnership with industry to obtain compliance with the legal requirements of the Machinery Directive and it's implementation in the UK through the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations, Janco (a UK-registered Company, founded in 1992) have developed solutions which are designed to suit YOU (and your budget). Different organisations require different levels of assistance. Janco offer a variety of levels of service to ensure that compliance is achieved, your machinery is safe, the lives of end users are not at risk and your machine carries the CE Mark with confidence.

All machinery put into use within the EU (and associated countries) from January 1993 must be assessed for safety, have a completed Technical File and be CE-marked. This includes machinery which is constructed in-house. If importing machinery into the EU as an end user, you should be aware of the "grey imports" market where machinery has never been designed for use in the EU and may require significant upgrades or modifications etc to achieve compliance.

In addition to new machines, all used, pre-owned and secondhand machinery imported into the EU must also be assessed. Older machines which are significantly upgraded may also become classed as requiring assessment.

We specialise in the Machinery Directive and, for customers who require a total service, we will prepare and complete all the documentation for you. Our Machinery Directive documents are formatted to our own developed and standardised design.

The Janco-format Machinery Technical File

The Janco format for Technical Files has been developed and refined over many years. Actual use and application finds the weaknesses of any system - our's has been tried and tested - and retested. With a progression of integrated chapters, the document is developed for the machine including the use of document comparators and, when complete, is easy to access and understand. All the requirements of the Directive (e.g. risk analysis, safety control system etc) are met and easily found for referencing.

Testwork and Calculations

We can complete any necessary test work

and arrange testwork on your behalf (e.g. EMC)
or specify the details of any testwork required to be completed by your goodselves.

Where necessary, we will produce your calculations or advise which calculations are required.

Operating Manuals

Operating Manual A vital part of achieving compliance is the preparation of an Operating and Maintenance Manual for the machine. We are experienced in the preparation of manuals (paper and electronic) and can produce complete manuals or advise on modifications or omissions etc from your own.

Re-design to eradicate non-compliances

Any non-compliances found in the analysis of the machine will need to be rectified. If necessary, we can assist you with re-designs (CAD or other). This can be a particularly useful service for importers and distributers where limited or no technical skills are available.
